DYLAN ANDERSON

Hello, my name is Dylan Anderson. I am from Twin Lakes, Wisconsin where I attended Westosha Central High School. I am currently a graduate student at UD seeking my Master’s in Business Administration with an emphasis on Finance. I will also be using my fifth year of eligibility on the Men’s Basketball Team.

Throughout my high school career, my focus on athletics was my way to take a break from stressful situations. Being a three-sport athlete made it easy to take my mind off of stressful situations. However, it was not until I got to college that I stressed the betterment of my physical health to really help benefit my mental well-being. Being a student-athlete comes with so many expectations; good grades, athletic performance, meeting deadlines, attending practices and more. These expectations can really grow on a person and create negative impacts on mental health, especially without different ways to cope. Throughout college, I have found different ways of focusing on my physical health, such as lifting weights or dedicating time to basketball, which have greatly increased my emotional and mental health.

There are many times that expectations and deadlines get to be too much, and the way that I can reset is by taking time to be physically active. Focusing on my physical well-being has provided me with such great benefits emotionally and mentally, like boosting my mood and easing stress. It has also allowed me to cross paths with people like me who use physical health as an outlet to impact their mental health. Through this, I have found a great support system who allows me to be me. I have found confidence in getting through the struggles that life throws at me, by focusing on my physical well-being.
