My name is Taylor Phillips, and I am currently a freshman on the women’s golf team at the University of Dubuque. I am from New London, Iowa, and I graduated in 2024 from New London Community school district. Growing up I played as many sports as I could, including softball, volleyball, bowling, basketball, and golf. Golf was very important to me as a kid; however, I didn’t start taking golf seriously until my grandpa passed away. It was something I used to enjoy doing with him. I wanted to make him proud so, I started golfing every day. I turned to golf to help keep my mind off everything that was going on in my life. Playing golf made me realize that playing a sport makes you mentally stronger. Trying to stay positive when you are having a bad day on the golf course is very difficult but if you can stay positive it helps you grow mentally stronger. Being involved in a ton of physical activities has improved not just my physical health but helped my mental toughness and mental health.
