My name is Zach Burfoot from Roscoe, IL. I am a freshman studying business at the University of Dubuque. Growing up, I have always played two sports, hockey, and golf. My senior year of high school, I made a big decision to stop playing golf and go to Canada to start my junior hockey career. Living in Canada, I realized the importance of good mental health. I was by myself, in a different country, going to school and living with a family that I did not know. I learned that talking to my coaches and teammates about how I was feeling helped me mentally and physically. It even helped me play hockey. My team, the Estevan Bruins ended up winning the provincial championship for the SJHL my first year. Playing sports has always helped me with confidence. I have learned that keeping up with your physical health can also help with your mental health. Eating the right foods, working out, and stretching, always makes me feel better. Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed, it helps me when I go to the gym to relax. I am looking forward to the hockey season too and to play as a Spartan.
