My name is Kale Roth, originally from Stevens Point, Wisconsin. I graduated from Stevens Point Area Senior High in 2023 and am now a freshman at the University of Dubuque, majoring in Business and Marketing. I’ve had the honor of representing the university on the wrestling team. As the eldest of three siblings, leaving home for college was a significant emotional challenge for me. I experienced profound sadness and anxiety about starting this new chapter in Dubuque, marking the highest stress levels I’d ever faced. However, by maintaining a positive attitude, I managed to connect with teammates and classmates who were navigating similar transitions, which alleviated some of my anxieties. Learning to manage stress at the University of Dubuque has been crucial in teaching me how to balance my physical and mental health across various aspects of my life. I make it a point to start each day with positive affirmations and aim to lead by example both on the wrestling mat and in academic settings. In an era where discussing emotional health can be challenging, especially among athletes, it’s a topic I hold dear. Wrestling provides me with an outlet to escape from life’s pressures through demanding physical exertion, enhancing not only my emotional but also my physical well-being. During practice and in class, I strive to spread positivity, believing that even small acts like giving a compliment can brighten someone’s day. This focuses on health benefits not just me but also those around me, fostering a healthier community.
