My name is Za’Cameron Brice and I’m from Arlington, Texas. I am a Junior at UD majoring in sports marketing and I play wideout for the Spartans football team. I graduated from Arlington-Lamar high school in 2021. Coming to UD was a big transition for me as I’ve never been anywhere up north. I came here expecting to play my freshman season and soon learned I would make scout team. Making scout team and being far away from family and home negatively impacted and took a toll on me physically and mentally. My grades begin to slip, and I walked around with a bad attitude. I never thought about how important your mental health was for you especially as a student athlete until I came to UD. There was a mental health week on campus, so I attended an event to learn more about it. Growing up in the south, in my household, I was taught tough love and to never show emotions, so I lived by this until I came to UD. Choosing UD may have been one of the best things for me, because I’ve learned a lot of people care about me here physically but most importantly mentally. Playing football helps me deal with so much because I don’t have to worry about anything but football for four quarters. I am now one of the starting receivers for the Spartans and have a big future ahead of me. I realized that your attitude determines your altitude and live by this saying every day. Mental health is a rising issue that’s not recognized by a lot of people in the US and now I want to make you aware and inform you how important it is for everyone.
