My name is Kale Roth. I am from Stevens Point Wisconsin. I graduated from Stevens Point area Senior High in 2023. I am a freshman at the University of Dubuque pursuing a degree in business and marketing. I have the privilege to represent the University of Dubuque on the wrestling team. Being the oldest of three, going off to college and leaving my hometown has been a challenging time in my life. I remember feeling all the sadness of leaving home along with the fear of the new life I had waiting for me in Dubuque. I had more stress than I had ever felt in my lifetime, and I didn’t know how to deal with it. Through staying positive, I made friends on the wrestling team and in the classroom who all were going through the same thing as me, which brought some peace to my stresses.
Keeping my stress down in my short journey so far at the University of Dubuque has taught me how to balance physical and mental health in the classroom, in the wrestling room, and in life. Each and every day I go through positive affirmations in my head and try to lead by example on the mat and in the classroom. In today’s day and age the topic of emotional health is hard to talk about with many athletes, which makes it a very important topic. Wrestling for me gives me a place to escape the stress and negativity that life brings with some enduring physical activity. Not only does it make me more emotionally healthy but physically as well. At practice and in the classroom, I love to spread positivity as well. Even a simple compliment to a stranger makes everyone’s day more positive. Focusing on physical and emotional health not only makes me healthier but it makes other people more healthy as well.
