My Name is Wesley Spitzmiller and I’m from St. Louis, Missouri. I graduated from Pattonville High School and am currently a Senior at the University of Dubuque double majoring in Math and Secondary Education. While playing offensive line, I have started 28 games over the past three years. I was honored to be named a team captain my Senior year. I am also a leader for the university’s FCA. I am also proud to be the Vice President of the UD’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee. The last few years have been a roller coaster ride full of ups and downs. Not only have I learned how to overcome the stresses of our ever-changing society; I simultaneously navigated through multiple injuries, and struggling with not seeing family often during the school year. Being an athlete has played a major role in my success at the University of Dubuque. Playing football has given me access to a support system which allows me to handle each day; making sure that each is just as important as the next day. Coaches, trainers, and teammates all play a role in my mental and physical health. While focusing on my physical recovery and mental health, this support system is there to listen, support, and push me to be the best student athlete. These challenges were manageable as a result of support provided by team, coaches, and trainers. I also believe I am a teammate that can be trusted and be there for my teammates whenever they need me. Physical and mental health is a topic that I am not afraid to speak on and am willing to share my journey with others.
