My name is Luke Harwick, and I am from Dyersville, IA. I am currently a freshman on the Men’s Golf team at the University of Dubuque. Growing up, I played multiple sports including football, basketball, and golf. As the years went on, my love for the game of golf really outgrew the other two and I started to pursue it more seriously. Playing sports my whole life has definitely made a lasting impact on the person I am today. I have learned countless life lessons and met some amazing people while doing so.
Once I fell in love with the game of golf, I learned the importance of physical and mental health. Golf is incredibly challenging in both aspects. Day in and day out I try my best to keep my physical and mental health in check, so I can optimize my play on the course. Sometimes, keeping my mental health in check can be difficult because of this game I love. If the work I’m putting in is not paying off, or I’m feeling burnt out, it can be very difficult for me to stay positive. But by overcoming these obstacles, I have learned lessons such as patience, positive attitude, and determination. If I had not prioritized my physical and mental health for my sport, I would not have learned these lessons that impact everything that I do. I encourage others to prioritize their health and reap the benefits of being healthy.
