My name is Emma Powell and I am currently completing my master’s degree at the University of Dubuque. I received my BA in Communication from UD, with minors in both Marketing and Human Resource Management. I am from Eldridge, Iowa and am a graduate of North Scott High School. I don’t remember a time in my life where I didn’t play volleyball, which is why it is such a big part of who I am. Being well physically, mentally, and emotionally has been a huge reason I have seen success on the volleyball court at UD. Finding people that support me as a whole person on the University of Dubuque campus has been simple because of my professors, classmates, coaches, and teammates. I have learned that prioritizing my mental health makes me stronger in both my academics and in my sport. Over my time at UD, I have grown as a leader and enjoy being a positive role model for younger athletes in terms of being physically and emotionally strong. Taking time for myself before games to prepare mentally, and physically, makes me confident. With the combination of time-management, organization, and communication, I have been able to limit outside stressors and find time to focus on creating the best version of myself as both a student, and an athlete.
