My name is Jake Cekander and I am currently completing my master’s degree at the University of Dubuque in Sports Marketing & Management. I received my BA in Sports Marketing & Management from UD, along with a minor in Business. I am from Chula Vista, California and I am a graduate of Eastlake High School. Baseball has always been a major part of my life as I have had a bat in my hand ever since I could walk. Baseball has provided as many life lessons as it has wonderful memories, which makes up a large part of who I am today. I can attribute a lot of my success on the field to being able to be physically, mentally, and emotionally well. There are so many great people within the UD community that have supported and helped me to be at my best in all phases. Through one of my best friends that I met at UD, I learned that prioritizing my mental health will make me better both on the field as well as in the classroom.
Throughout my time at UD, I have grown as a leader and enjoy being a role model to my teammates when it comes to being strong physically and mentally. Making time for myself before games to prepare my body and get in the right mindset allows me to be at my best on the field. My time-management, work ethic, and self-discipline helps me limit outside distractions from getting in the way of being the best version of myself as a student and an athlete.
