I am a freshman at the University of Dubuque. I’m coming into college with two huge goals: becoming a national champion and an airline pilot. I’ve been totally committed to these goals since the day I set my mind on them. Wrestling has shaped me as a human being. It’s also helped me learn about sacrifice, discipline, and breaking barriers. Through wrestling, I’ve experienced that mental health is just as important as physical strength. The pressure, the weight cuts, the competition, it all takes a toll on your mental health. That’s why I think that mental health is really important. Because you can’t be your best if you’re not thinking the best. Off the mat, I’m chasing my dream of becoming a commercial pilot and taking my future to a whole new level. The focus it takes to fly is the same focus it takes to win. Wrestling and flying both demand precision, confidence, and control and I’m here for all of it. My parents have been my biggest supporters, and they have made many sacrifices for my siblings and I to chase our goals and to attend college. I cannot fail; and the pressure to succeed requires me to be able to address my mental and emotional health. I know that there will be ups and downs as I chase my goals, and it is important for me to lean into my supporters and resources and make sure that I am prepared for the adversity that is sure to come. This is just the beginning of my journey. I’m working every day to earn that national title, represent my school, and inspire others to chase greatness.
