Hi I’m Xavier Goode My name is Xavier Goode and I am from Houston, Texas and attended C.E. King High School. My major at the University of Dubuque is Computer Science and would love to have a career in the field once my football career is over. During my time in high school I faced a mental crisis, I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be a football player. My high school football coach told me in the 9th grade that I sucked and was never going to become a college football offensive lineman. Now imagine how I felt in that moment, hurt, sick to my stomach, confused, devastated, and all sorts of other things. At that moment I started to question whether football was the right sport for me. But instead of letting that discourage me, it gave me the fire that I needed. So, for four summers I worked my butt off in high school to become a starter on the football team; because I felt I could do anything if I put my mind to it. As long as the Lord is on my side I won’t fail! I had to eat right, learn the inside and outs of an offensive lineman, and take care of my body so I could perform at the best of my ability. I’ve developed my physical and emotional health through training and falling in love with the process of getting better. So. my senior year in high school I led the offensive line to the state game at the Dallas Cowboys stadium. It was a wild journey, but fun. During this time I had to change my mindset and realize that setbacks and doubts can be overcome, and that they are part of the journey. I learned how to turn negative experiences into motivation. I also learned on my journey that success takes time and doesn’t just happen overnight. This journey helped me realize that physical and emotional health are dependent on one another—you must emphasize both to truly be healthy and to reach your goals-thank you
