PETER LEE

My name is Peter Lee. I am from Eufaula, Oklahoma, and I attended Eufaula High School. I am a freshman at the University of Dubuque, and I am majoring in Business and Nursing. I hope to own my own business and become a successful entrepreneur or become a nurse in the future. I am glad to be here at UD, but the transition and being far from home and the people I love most hasn’t been easy. It has been hard, with long days that have really pushed me and made me think about who I am physically and mentally. However, everyone in my life has prepared me for this. I just keep my head up, keep going, and try to stay healthy and hydrated. I take the best care of my body as I can and make sure I rehab correctly so I am ready to go again the next day. I want to be at one hundred percent and ready to get better every day. I am always pushing myself to be a better person and a better player, but most importantly, I need to pay attention in the classroom and show up every day, even when I am tired or just don’t feel like going to class. I also need to study because my coaches and family have really pushed the idea that academics come before sports. The foundation that was instilled in me by my family has allowed me to focus on my health. And the challenges of doing new things that are not easy has made me utilize my support system and resources to adapt and focus. I encourage others to do the same. I also encourage others to take care of both their physical and brain health because both are important for being successful. Taking care of your physical health can include staying active, eating well, getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, and giving your body time to recover. Taking care of your brain health is just as important, especially when life gets stressful or overwhelming. It is important to give yourself time to rest, talk to people you trust, ask for help when you need it, and take care of your mental well-being. I believe that taking care of yourself in both ways can help you perform better in school, sports, work, and everyday life. Even when things get difficult, taking care of yourself and using the people and resources around you can help you keep moving forward.
