My name is Beau Altman, and I’m from Rogers, Minnesota. I went to grade school at Buffalo before transferring to Andover High School for my senior year where I graduated in 2023. I am currently a freshman at the University of Dubuque, where I am majoring in Business. I have the privilege to play for the men’s hockey team. Being the youngest of three siblings, departing for junior hockey, and college was a major emotional struggle for me. I felt intense sadness and anxiety about beginning this new chapter in Dubuque, reaching the highest stress levels I had ever encountered. By keeping a positive mindset, I succeeded in connecting with teammates and classmates experiencing similar changes, which reduced some of my worries. Gaining skills to handle stress at the University of Dubuque has been essential in instructing me on how to maintain my physical and mental wellbeing in different areas of my life. I strive to set a good example both in hockey and in educational environments. In a time when talking about emotional wellbeing can be difficult, particularly for athletes, it’s a subject I cherish. Hockey offers me a way to relieve life’s stress through intense physical activity, improving both my emotional and physical health. In practice, I aim to share positivity, and leadership through work ethic, which not only brings out the best version of myself, but teammates, and peers as well.
