JUSTIN MATSON

By November 6, 2025No Comments

My name is Justin Matson, and I am a junior at the University of Dubuque majoring in Flight Operations. Physical, emotional, and mental health are central to my daily life, and I work intentionally to maintain all three as I pursue success academically, athletically, and personally. I’ve been honored to serve as a three-time team captain on the UD wrestling team, proudly wearing the Spartan singlet. In the 2024–25 season, I compiled a 25-4 record at 285 lbs. and earned several prestigious distinctions including College Sports Communicators Academic All-District, NWCA Scholar-All-American, A-R-C All-Academic, and a 5th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional. I also opened the season ranked No. 15 nationally in the NWCA individual preseason heavyweight rankings and later stood 9th in the nation during the season, with a 68% bonus-points rate. I have a goal to finish even higher this season by becoming an All-American. Beyond athletics, I serve in the Air National Guard’s 148th Fighter Wing, traveling monthly for drills and fulfilling deployments as needed. Balancing these commitments alongside academics and athletics has taught me resilience, discipline, and how to prioritize my mental health. I’ve faced both physical and emotional challenges—and through them, I’ve remained hopeful and committed to representing the University of Dubuque at my best. My goal is to make a positive impact and raise awareness of the vital importance of physical and mental well-being, and something far greater than myself. I am honored to represent the Spartans Supporting Physical and Mental Health Organization.
