My name is Payton Morton, and I am currently a sophomore on the women’s golf team here at the University of Dubuque. I am from Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, and I graduated from Wilmot Union High School in 2024. I grew up playing as many sports as I possibly could including softball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, and golf. I picked up golf around 7th grade and took it more seriously about 2 years later. Being involved in sports throughout my life has allowed me to strengthen my body but more importantly they have strengthened my mental health. When on a golf course, I mentally feel calm, focused, and confident. These traits have helped me translate the mentalities both on and off the course which have allowed me to be a better student, leader, and athlete. Being able to strengthen my mental toughness and health has made me a stronger person with everyday challenges. One main thought that we are reminded to maintain on the golf course is gratitude, no matter how you are playing. This allows me to be grateful for challenges and all situations I am in.
