Hi, my name is Sara Schroder, and I am from Canton, South Dakota. Currently I am a sophomore at the University of Dubuque and in the pursuit of a bachelor’s in science of nursing while wrestling. Ever since being invited to try out wrestling my freshman year of high school I have never looked back, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The sport has pushed me and shaped me into the person I am today. Along with this I have made some of the best friendships. The main one in particular is with my hometown training partner Finley Evjen. I started driving to Finley to practice when she was in sixth grade. Every morning workout, every lift, and every practice we would find joy. One of the best pieces of advice I was given is that joy is not circumstantial, it is something that you choose. This is something that I try to take into my everyday life, especially training. Wrestling is hard, but finding the joy and fun in it is why I love this sport so much. Finding joy in everything keeps my present and grounded. Every opportunity I have is a gift and a joy that I try not to take for granted and am incredibly grateful to have.
