Hello, this is Liam Carney. Here is my story for Spartans Supporting Physical and Emotional Health. Thank you for all you do for UD athletes! My name is Liam Carney. I am from Wauconda, Illinois, and attended Wauconda High School. I am a sophomore in the classroom, but a freshman on the field after transferring in the winter to play football at UD. I am pursuing a degree in Sports Marketing and Management and hope to coach after my playing days are done. I transferred to UD from Southern Illinois University and could not be more excited for this new opportunity in Dubuque. In my first year of college football, I faced numerous challenges and adversities. This adversity helped me grow a lot physically and mentally. I have learned the importance of taking care of my body and mind before I touch the field. I have heavily relied on the resources from UD as well as my family to keep myself healthy. College football is very demanding and requires a lot of dedication and focus. I have learned over the past year the importance of giving myself a way to decompress and take my mind off football. Golf has become my outlet to mentally reset myself and build relationships off the field. I encourage all college athletes to find one thing that allows them to take their mind off their sport and reset themselves mentally. I have also made my physical health a priority this year. Specifically with mobility and injury prevention. I have created a pre practice routine and off day routine to try and prevent injury and improve upon my mobility. Over the last year I have grown a lot with my physical and mental health and am very thankful for Spartans Supporting Physical and Emotional Health for giving athletes a space to talk about it. I am very excited for my future at the University of Dubuque and future opportunities with Spartans Supporting Physical and Emotional Health.
