My name is Joe LaBarbera and I am a sophomore on the men’s golf team at University of Dubuque. I received an email saying that you were interested in starting an NIL deal with me. I was also aware that I was supposed to create a statement on my personal experience with physical and mental health. Below is that statement. My name is Joe LaBarbera, I am from Elmwood Park, Illinois, and I am a sophomore on the men’s golf team at the University of Dubuque. I played golf, baseball, and basketball at a competitive level during high school. Sports have been a major part of my life ever since I was a kid and have helped me with mental health and given me something to look forward to every day. I have created so many friendships and relationships with coaches that I will carry on with me forever. My first ever competitive golf meet was my freshman year of high school, and I never really was serious about it until my sophomore year of high school. I never understood how much the game of golf would do for me as a person until that year. I always say that golf is my escape from the real world, where I don’t have to think about anything going on around me. When I am out there it is just me and the golf course. The game of golf can be a mentally challenging game, and even physically demanding at times, but through golf I am able to maintain my emotional health and it will continue to help me grow mentally and as an individual. I encourage everyone to find a passion that allows you an escape from the day-to-day turmoil of life but challenges you. The physical and emotional health benefits will allow you to stay grounded and to grow as an individual. If there is anything else needed, please let me know, and thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity. I am extremely grateful!
