My name is EnyĆ©r Reyes, and I am currently completing my bachelor’s degree in flight operations at the University of Dubuque. I am originally from the Dominican Republic. In 2015, I immigrated to the U.S. and graduated from East Dubuque High School. I have been playing baseball ever since I could remember, which is why it is a big part of who I am. Playing baseball in the Dominican Republic was quite difficult, many people and coaches did not value or know the importance of physical, mental, and emotional health, which is why it was a challenge to play there. I vividly remember going to games without water or food and playing all day under the hot and humid sun. These conditions took a significant toll on my physical and mental health. This was one of the many challenges I faced. Coming to the U.S. was very eye-opening because there are so many resources for student-athletes to help them achieve their goals. Throughout the years of living and playing baseball here, I have learned that prioritizing my mental health has been critical to my success in the classroom and on the field. With the guidance and support of mentors, including my parents, coaches, and teammates- I have developed a strong foundation for success and resilience. I would recommend that all student-athletes take advantage of the resources around them to focus on their physical and mental health.
