JASON RUNDE

My name is Jase Runde, and I’m from Dubuque County, out of Peosta. Before coming to UD, I was enrolled at Kirkwood Community College, playing baseball and also earning my Associates Degree. I am currently a student-athlete here at University of Dubuque, playing baseball and majoring in Physical Education. When it comes to playing baseball, it has always been a space where I can get out, leave everything outside the lines, and play the game I’ve been playing ever since I was 5 years old. When it comes to mental health, I think it’s very important to have a heavy focus on this, especially as an athlete. It’s very easy to get worked up and stressed when you are stacked up with classwork, lifts, practice etc. I will always be thankful for the people I can rely on when these stressful times come up. I think it’s important to be open about your mental health. Always being a listener for someone, checking in on them, and making sure they are okay is a huge way to benefit your peers. You never know what someone is going through, so checking in could go a long way. I think here at UD, we have a great community of people who will always have your back, and I am very thankful to be a part of this type of community. I will always encourage everyone to check in on a buddy and prioritize their mental health. Thank you for the opportunity!
