My name is Enyer Reyes, and I am a sophomore at the University of Dubuque majoring in Flight Operations and I am a pitcher on the baseball team. Balancing school, athletics, and work has taught me that taking care of both my body and my mind is just as important as studying for exams or practicing on the field. Over the past year, I’ve realized how much small things matter such as eating right, staying hydrated, and making time for sleep. When I don’t do those things, I can feel it right away in the classroom and on the field. I have also had to learn how to handle stress, especially when my schedule gets packed. For me, emotional health is just as important. Talking to my friends, teammates, and coaches when I’m feeling overwhelmed helps me keep things in perspective. Having people around who support me makes a big difference. I think student athletes should take time to take care of themselves, because you can’t give your best to others if you’re not healthy yourself.
