My name is Ella Gabbert, and I am a freshman on the UD Women’s Basketball Team. I am a double major in flight operations and aviation management with plans to become a professional pilot upon graduation. Being involved in sports comes with its fair share of demands and long hours, but it also acts as a healthy outlet that helps me manage stress and stay balanced. Just as my mental health is a priority, taking care of my physical health is essential. With the intensity of practices and workouts, I know how important it is to keep my body performing at its best. To do so, I prioritize getting at least eight hours of sleep per night, eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, and taking the time to stretch and recover. Basketball has been helpful for my mental health as it serves as an escape from the demands of school and it has given me teammates who are now like my family. I also prioritize my mental health by doing things that bring me joy outside of basketball and the classroom. Some of these things include spending time with friends and family, traveling, attending sports games, flying planes, and leaning on my faith. I encourage everyone to pursue passions that support both their physical and mental well-being and to surround themselves with supportive friends and family.
