My name is Felicity Figlinski, and I am a junior at the University of Dubuque, where I play on the women’s basketball team. I grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin, and graduated from Appleton West High School. I am majoring in Sports Marketing and Management with a minor in Business. Basketball has shaped so much about who I am. It has given me lifelong friendships, a strong sense of community, and an active and healthy lifestyle. Being a team captain in the past taught me valuable lessons about leadership, responsibility, and communication that I carry with me both on and off the court. After recovering from an ACL injury, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance, mental toughness, and patience. That experience pushed me to grow stronger and reminded me how powerful determination can be when overcoming challenges. Sports have also shown me how closely physical and mental health are connected. Competing, training, and even facing setbacks have taught me that taking care of my mind is just as important as taking care of my body. Basketball has been a space where I can focus on both, and it continues to motivate me to be my best self. I value the opportunity athletics gives me to grow as a person, stay disciplined, and maintain a balance that supports my overall well-being.
